Basic ARMORED VEHICLE Operations
Who this course is for:
This course is for officers who have little to no knowledge and/or experience with MRAPs, HMMWVs, or other armored vehicles, including driving them.
Purpose:
The purpose of our training course is to offer an in-depth program to thoroughly train law enforcement officers how to operate armored vehicles and military type vehicles departments obtained through the 1033 program. This course will enforce officer safety through education of the vehicle(s), as well as the possible dangers while operating such vehicles. By the end of the course, each member will be capable and confident in performing operations with an armored vehicle and will know how to properly care for and maintain their emergency vehicle(s).
Objectives:
Upon completion of the classroom instruction, the student will be able to:

Conduct standard PMCS of the vehicle. (Handouts on this)

Discuss the vehicle’s level of protection, safety, and equipment; as well as how to load and secure their vehicle.

Determine essential driving skills and proper maneuvering of vehicle while operating on various terrain, weather, and extreme temperatures.

Determine warnings and cautions of risk reduction for rollovers and tipping while operating the vehicle.
Upon completion of the skills training, the student will be able to:

Complete a vehicle walk around naming components and explaining their proper usage.

Differentiate the location and function of controls and indicators.
-
Point out the proper emergency egress of the vehicle.

Demonstrate proper safety usage of the turret, breaching ram, and/or side deployment ramps (If applicable).
Upon completion of the vehicle driving training, the student will be able to:

Operate the vehicle properly during normal and unexpected conditions.

Explain best practices for transmission/engine braking procedures.

Operate the vehicle safely on various terrain.
-
Operate the vehicle on multiple roadways with other vehicles on the road.
